ART LIGHTS
A family of faceted lights that were cast in aluminium and brass and then machined to obtain their shine.
This light was designed as a family and may be used as a spotlight, wall washer, pendant, or table lamp that demonstrates the various uses of the faceted surface to highlight artwork or used in the home.
Family to be designed by Casegoods.

THE BRIEF: To design systems to make the Art Light (Series 1) which Samuel Barclay designed in 2019, lighter and more efficient and sustainable in manufacturing.
Three more versions (Series 2) were added to Series 1 making it into a family that may be used as a ceiling spotlight, wall washer, pendant, or table lamp demonstrating the various uses of thefaceted surface.
The Art Light (2019) initially weighed 1.5kgs and was made using a rod and pipe which patinated/oxidised differently due to the difference in alloys.
After various simulations and tests, the overall weight of the light was reduced by 50% and the manufacturing techniques of sand casting and CNC were selected to streamline the manufacturing of the light.
FRONT-FACING DOME LIGHT
A family of lights built around metal spun aluminium domes and the mirror light bulb. The domes are pigmented all around to give the light a gentle pink colour.
Family designed by Casegoods.
Concept & Design: Kenneth Roddrigues, Vishal Mehta, Isha Shah
Single Dome Version
Double Dome Version
Year: 2022
Material: Metal Spun Aluminium Domes, Aluminium, Pink Pigment
Process: Metal Spinning, CNC Milling, Lathe
The domes are made using metal spun aluminium. The parts are made on a CNC Milling machine and an automated lathe machine and then nickel plated to give a nice sheen to the light.
Process
The nickel-plated surface matches the silver tip of the mirrored light bulb.
The domes are painted on the inside to give the light a warm pink hue.
BOOKENDS
A collection of bookends made using CNC bent sheet metal and then powder coated.
Collection designed by Casegoods
Concept & Design: Paul Michelon, Kenneth Roddrigues, Isha Shah, Vishal Mehta,
Vaibhavi Dave, Raunaq Sandhu, Saleem Bhatri
Prototyping using filecard
Use of prototyped bookends
The intent was to achieve maximum functionality from minimum by exploring the bending property of sheet metal.
An A4 size sheet is bent in different axes making it into a freestanding bookend that can be used on planar surfaces for books to lay on.
Year: 2019-2022
Material: 1.5mm Mild Steel
Process: Sheet Metal Bending, Powder Coating
CAST CANDLE HOLDER
A playful take on traditional candle holders, that uses gravity to hold the candle in place.
These candleholders were originally intended to be built of cast iron, but we went through a lengthy material exploration stage in which we used cast aluminum & brass, machined aluminum & brass, cast iron, wood, and 3D-Printed PLA to materialize our prototypes.
Formal exploration realised by Casegoods.

Through our experiments and test, we found out that the user experience of this product is not intuitive and the care and cleaning of the candle holder is very tedious hence this product was a great lesson on materials, processes, and testing.
