Fun Arts & Crafts from Household Junk

Self Initiated Sustainability & Repurposing Project

Fun Arts & Crafts is a project to repurpose and convert everyday household junk into fun and creative objects.

The Inspiration

The Covid-19 pandemic was a tough time for all of us. We had to rely on food delivery services, Amazon, and other internet delivery systems to keep us healthy and moving throughout the lockdowns, as work, school, commerce, hotel, and retail establishments came to a halt and shuttered. The dramatic surge in online ordering, however, brought a new challenge: how to use or dispose of the large cardboard boxes that our items arrived in?

So, inspired by Tom Sachs' bricolage principle and Lindsay Milne's Readers Digest Kids book Exciting Factory, I accepted the challenge and started turning these boxes and cartons into fun arts and crafts projects.

 Materials

All projects started with a pair of scissors, a cutter, a cutting mat, glue, tape, paints, paper and cardboard boxes.

This project was a great way for me to feel empowered to maximise my resources (household junk) and express my creativity through small, fun arts and crafts projects which can be done with the whole family.
